My Journey • Step 7 of 8

Today

Where we are now and what current life looks like, including progress, challenges, and what keeps us grounded.

Where We Are Today

Our life now and what this journey looks like moving forward.

Intro

A lot has changed since the beginning.

From those first signs, to diagnosis, to learning how to live with it, this journey has shaped our lives in ways we never expected.

But today, we are still here.

Still learning. Still growing. Still moving forward.

Life today

Life today is different, but it is still life.

We still have:

  • Family time
  • Laughter
  • Normal routines
  • Everyday moments

Alström syndrome has not taken that away.

It has just become part of our world.

What we focus on now

Over time, our mindset has shifted.

In the beginning, everything was about:

  • What could happen
  • What might come next
  • Trying to understand everything

Now, we focus on:

What we can do today.

  • Supporting her needs
  • Creating a comfortable environment
  • Keeping up with care and monitoring
  • Letting her enjoy life

Ongoing care and monitoring

We continue to stay on top of her health.

Because Alström syndrome is a multi-system condition, it requires ongoing monitoring across different areas of the body.

That includes:

  • Vision
  • Hearing
  • Heart health
  • Growth and metabolism

This is not something that stops, it is something we manage over time.

What we have learned along the way

Looking back, this journey has changed us.

We have learned:

  • To take things one step at a time
  • To not rush into the unknown
  • To focus on what matters most

And most importantly:

To be present.

This journey is not just about what is ahead, it is about what is happening right now.

The balance we have found

There is always a balance.

Between:

  • Planning and living
  • Awareness and overthinking
  • Strength and vulnerability

We do not always get it right.

But we have learned how to keep moving forward even when things feel uncertain.

For anyone reading this

If you have followed our journey this far, you might be on a similar path.

Maybe you are:

  • At the beginning
  • Waiting for answers
  • Or already navigating life with this condition

Wherever you are:

You are not alone.

And even though this journey is different, there is still so much life within it.

Why we built this

We created this space for one reason:

To make things easier for the next parent.

Because when we started, we did not have something like this.

We had to piece things together.

And if this helps even one family feel more informed, more prepared, or less alone, then it is worth it.

Final words

This is not the end of the journey.

It is just where we are today.

And we will keep learning, adapting, and growing, one step at a time.

This story reflects lived experience and personal journey context.
